Irish Youth Foundation's Annual Bloomsday Messenger Bike Rally & Lunch

Wolfe Tone Statue Stephens Green Dublin - Cyclone Shredding

Friday 15th June and the Heavens were pouring over Dublin City, but that didn’t deter the Joycean Dressed enthusiasts who were aboard their rothar’s in full force for the Annual Bloomsday Messenger Bike Rally and Lunch in aid of the very deserving Irish Youth Foundation.

Now in it’s 19th year, The annual Bloomsday Messenger Bike Rally & Lunch raises much needed funds for youth community and voluntary groups throughout the country, who work to create positive differences in the lives of children and young people facing adversity.

Over 100 people on High Nelly’s, Penney Farthings and messenger bikes , dressed in their finest Edwardian garb and boater hats, took off at 9.30am from the Wolfe Tone Statue at Stephen’s Green and wound their way around Joycean Dublin stopping by the Mansion House, where they joined in a rousing rendition of “Molly Malone” with the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr. Andrew Montague, before continuing around various well known Joycean locations in the city, with well earned pit stops out of the rain along the way!

The rain on the day didn’t dampen the spirits as the Cyclists wove their way around the city in tribute to Leopold Bloom, a fictional character in James Joyce's groundbreaking novel, Ulysses and included dramatic recitals of Ulysses along the way. The morning’s busy celebrations culminated in a welcome lunch and charity auction at The Shelbourne Hotel attended by over 280 colourful guests including key note speaker Brian Dobson.

To date, the Annual Bloomsday Messenger Bike Rally and Lunch has raised over €700,000 for community and volunteer groups throughout Ireland.

Cyclone Shredding are delighted to be in a position to sponsor the event for the 4th year running to raise funds for the Irish Youth Foundation and the important work they carry out. “We believe in supporting worthwhile causes whenever possible and we feel that investing in our youth’s future is just as important as celebrating our past. This is a fun day out for all participants and we would encourage all to support in any way they can” Kevin Oliver, Director Cyclone Group
